Remembering Tiananmen - Photographs from 1989 & 2009
On June 4th, 2009, was the 20th anniversary of the military crackdown on protesters gathered in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. Thousands of students and other citizens gathered in April 1989, protesting for freedom and democratic reform. By May, hundreds of thousands of protesters occupied the square and the protests last till the Chinese Army ended them in the beginning of June 1989.
Now, 20 years after the event, boston.com posted photographs from Tiananmen Square taken in 1989 and 2009 with comments as people remembered. You can view the great collection of photos here.
